http://www.wechange.org/taxonomy/term/43 .
Among which, you can have a look at calls for action on this topic:
http://www.wechange.org/taxonomy/term/43,18 .
Also, you can have a look at posts relevant to a specific area:
http://www.wechange.org/taxonomy/term/43,30 this are messages related to the whole of UK, but not London: http://www.wechange.org/taxonomy/term/43,51 .
http://www.wechange.org/taxonomy/term/43,22 this are messages related to the whole world, but not those related to one part of the world only.
As the number of contributions increases, the software on which this web site runs (Drupal) makes it easy to find posts that correspond precisely to what you are looking for (e.g. related to your city, etc...).
Currently, not many members have registered, but you can see who is interested in this topic by looking here:
http://www.wechange.org/profile/profile_topics_of_interest/Carfree+Cities.
When you set your profile, you have the possibility to write the list of topics you are interested in, using your own wording. Still, see if you can choose some words or phrases commonly used by other members, so that it's easier for the members to meet other members with a similar interest.
Similarly, if interested people have set their profile correctly, you can see who is interested in taking specific action for a particular city. For example:
http://www.wechange.org/profile/action_carfree_city/New+Orleans.
You can click on the names of the cities within your own profile to see a list of other people who know that city, too. First, you must set your profile properly: go to http://www.wechange.org/user/ , click on 'edit'. Three sub-tabs will appear below 'edit'. Click on the tab/link "2- Action topics" and list the cities you know, so that as the number of members grow, you can easily get to know other people living nearby and having the same interest in more livable, carfree cities.
Also, when writing a blog or a forum entry on this topic, make sure that on the topic field, you put the words "Carfree cities" so that your post can still easily found a few months or a few years from now by a visitor looking for relevant information. On the "geographic relevance" field, name the city and/or country your post is relevant to. If your post is of general nature, write "World", so that it can be found by someone looking for posts on this topic but does not wish to go through scores of posts only relevant to a particual city.
Obviously, all of this will be more and more interesting as the number of members within this web site grows. So, contribute, register and ... spread the word.
A window of opportunity in New Orleans
It appears that large portions of New Orleans is going to be difficult to restore, along with very expensive additions to levees that may or may not hold water in the next Category 5 hurricane.
Carfree communities should push for the creation of carfree nodes in a Newer Orleans, a community built up out of the floodplain area, serviced by rapid transit, and built around pedestrian zones.
